Welcome to The Edinburgh Academical Football Club

The Edinburgh Academical Football Club, formed in 1857, is the oldest rugby club in Scotland and the second oldest in the World. The Club’s name omits the word rugby as it predates the division between the Association and Rugby codes of football, which took place in the 1860s. We are celebrating our 160th season in 2017/18.

President's Welcome

A very warm welcome to you, whether you are looking at this web site for the first time or you are a regular visitor.

Anyone who knows me is aware of my deep and abiding interest in the Club’s history, so to be taking on a role that has been held by such illustrious names from the Club’s past is a huge honour, and more than a little humbling. I will endeavour to live up to their reputation and also to the fine example set by my immediate predecessor, Dave McIvor.

2017/18 is the Club's 160th season. We are rightly proud of what we have contributed to rugby in the past, but we are also proud of our recent efforts to develop rugby, not only at Raeburn Place at both Senior and Mini level, but throughout north Edinburgh with our partner BATs.

Accies Centre of Excellence (ACE) is now successfully established. ACE focuses on improving the individual skills, standards and knowledge of the young players of north Edinburgh, aged from 14 to 18, and runs on Monday evenings throughout the year. We have an impressive team of coaches working with ACE. I thank them for their efforts and look forward to seeing the results of their dedication.

You will find all the information you need about the Club on this website. Whether you are looking to join us as a new player or social member, if you would like to volunteer to help or become a sponsor of the Club, or you simply want to watch some exciting rugby, you will be very welcome at Raeburn Place – the birthplace of international rugby.
