The Edinburgh Academical Football Club, the oldest rugby club in Scotland, welcomes new players of all levels into the Club.
We run four senior sides each week and are looking for players at all levels - from those who want to play at the top level of club rugby in Scotland, to those who want to play socially each week - to back up the ambitions of the Club.
This season we have a place at the ‘top table’ of Scottish club rugby in the new, 10 team, RBS Premier League. This is something we could not have done without the depth of players and coaches we we have at the Club. But, with the introduction of a10 team league, the league format changes back to playing each team both home and away, 18 games, and not an ‘easy’ game in sight for the 1st XV, we need to strengthen our pool of players.
Backing up the 1st XV we will have our 2nd XV playing in the RBS Reserve League National 1, the U20s in the RBS Reserve League East 1 and the Whites in the Reserve League East 2.
We have strengthened our rugby management and coaching team over the ‘closed season’. We are very pleased to have Bob Easson as our Director of Rugby. Bob returns to Accies, where he was head coach before moving on to coach at professional club and international level.
Our coaching team for the coming year is made up of: Head Coach, Simon Cross (more info click here), Jonny Else (1st XV), Malcolm McVie and Andrew Easson (2nd XV), Graham Bonner, Tom Drennan and Phil Maguire (U20s and Whites XVs).
Last April, we added another strand to our player development, when we launched the Accies Centre of Excellence (ACE). ACE will focus on improving the individual skills, standards and knowledge of young players, aged from 14 to 20, and will run on Monday evenings throughout the year. We have an impressive team of coaches who will work with ACE.
Club training takes place at Raeburn Place every Tuesday and Thursday – changed and ready to go at 7pm.
