Match preview, Premiership 5: Ayr v Accies

Premiership 5 - Saturday 27 September 2014
Ayr v Accies, Millbrae, ko 3pm

Another tough call this week when we are away to Ayr who sit equal top of the Premiership on points with Gala after four games. They are a dangerous side and after losing their last home game to Hawick will be looking to put things back to normal.

We go to the game with some confidence after a better second half against Currie and an all round improvement last week.

For the first time this season we start with the same set of three-quarters for two consecutive games.

We do though have three changes in the pack. Captain Greg Campbell returns replacing Jamie McCarthy, who has concussion and so will miss the next couple of weeks, David Bates and Michael Liness rotate at hooker and Robin Snape replaces the unfortunate Jamie Winks at blind side, making his first start of the season after coming on from the bench last week.

On the bench, James Munro returns after being unavailable last week and Josh Pecqueur comes in after getting game time with the 2nd XV last weekend.

Our team to play Ayr is: Ruairidh Young; Sam Pecqueur, Ewen Campbell, Robert Wilson, Jack Marples; Iain Chisholm, Ryan Godsmark; Duncan Morrison, David Bates, Lewis Niven; Greg Campbell, Ed Stuart; Robin Snape, Jamie Sole, Ronan Seydak.

Replacements: Michael Liness, Clement Lacour, Jamie Winks, James Munro, Josh Pecqueur.

Coach's comments

Phil Leck said: "An unfortunate end to last week's game didn't reflect the lads efforts. The rebuilding process is beginning to pay dividends, with a more mature performance on the back of some hard work once more. A trip to Ayr is never going to be an easy one but it will show us where we are in our progression and an away win would be a massive boost and reward for the squad.

"Edinburgh's A team game against Sale on Sunday accounts for three unavailable key players and with the loss of Nyle Godsmark to the sevens again, we dig deep into our squad and play largely the same 20 man team from last week, the only exception being Greg Campbell returning because of a concussion to Jamie McCarthy."
