BATs’ Review 12 November 2015

Schools’ Rugby

Broughton High School: Last week saw the end of two six-week blocks of coaching at Broughton High School, with our final sessions with the S3 girls and the S1 boys. We had a great response from the girls and their teacher. The boys’ session finished with a recap on tackle technique and we played a few conditioned games for maximum participation. The feedback from the PE staff and pupils has been so positive, we expect to be back delivering at Broughton again very soon.

Trinity Academy: We had another successful week at the School of Rugby. All year groups worked on defensive systems and understanding how to stay connected when in shape. In matches against Boroughmuir High School at the weekend, Trinity had success at both S1 and S2. However at S3 and above Boroughmuir High School could not fulfil the fixture to the requirements of the conference so the games had to be cancelled. There are fixtures against Ross High for all age groups this Saturday and we are hoping for more wins.

Victoria Primary School: This week we ran our second rugby session with the P4s and P5s, building on successes from last week with the development of full-sided games of touch.

BATs’ Youth Section

Last week’s training session at the RAF hall focused on fitness and working on core basic skills under high pressure and fatigue, testing accuracy when physically tired. We started off with a 15-minute fitness circuit to tire the boys and then looked at handling. We then added time pressures and fitness-related consequences for any errors. The consequences where performed by the whole group to emphasise teamwork and togetherness. On Sunday there was training for all age groups apart from the S2s who were given the Sunday off following a tough game on Saturday.

The BATs U16s have reached the semi-finals of the Cup and are looking to continue their unbeaten run on Sunday when they play Stewartry U16s at Raeburn Place. If the team is successful, they will the final will potentially be played at Murrayfield.
