BATs’ Review 2 December 2015
Broughton Primary School: We had a great week of coaching last week, with some excellent skills on show in our newest project, the P3s ad P4s. The pupils have already developed with just two weeks of training with Gregor and Callum. This week is our last one this term, but we hope to kick off the new year with some more contact time.
Trinity Academy School of Rugby: We have been working on technical skills across the board and the training we have been doing is reflected in last weekend’s results, with wins for all age groups against Watson’s, apart from the S3s who were just picked off towards the end of their game.
Congratulations to Trinity Academy seniors who played in the Calum Veitch Memorial Tournament and walked away victorious. The Veitch Cup is presented to the winners of the 10-a-side schools’ tournament, played in memory of Calum Veitch, a young rugby player who died at the age of 17 in a tragic accident. The Trinity Academy team were unbeaten throughout the tournament, with great performances from all and especially Jack Knight.
Trinity have another tough weekend ahead, with fixtures against Stewarts Melville. We hope their winning form will continue, with the S3s joining the winning ways.
After School Clubs: These have been in full swing again with lots of fun and high levels of participation. Individual development is really starting to show.

We had a huge response from players coming down to Raeburn Place last Wednesday for extra training in preparation for the U16 cup final (sadly postponed). The numbers available allowed us to run some fun touch games to keep the spirits high and work on small, focused aspects of the game. We then focused on certain ways to play by conditioning the game rules. We finished with a handling drill to emphasise how important hands are when under pressure and fatigue. Thanks to the players from the S2s who came down on Sunday for their training session, which was cut short due to the horrendous conditions.
This evening (Wednesday 2 December) we are hoping to hold BATs’ training at Raeburn Place, but may have to move to the RAF Hall depending on the weather. A decision will be notified asap.
There will be training for the S1s and S2s on Sunday, 10.30-12.00 at Raeburn Place.
Despite the poor weather, about 27 boys attended Monday’s ACE session at Raeburn Place. We focused on speed training and handling and the work rate was impressive in such cold conditions.
