BATs’ Review 21 January 2016

Schools’ Rugby

After a wet and wintery Christmas break the schools are now back into the swing of things.

Trinity Academy School of Rugby: There is a new timetable in place for this term. Pupils can access this at the sports’ notice board. There is a full timetable of rugby in place this week but pupils taking exams are exempt from attending in order to study.

Unfortunately, Trinity’s scheduled games against Stew Mel at the weekend where cancelled due to the weather. However, there is a combined S1/2 fixture against a Currie/Balerno mixed team this Saturday. There are no games for the S3s, U16s or U18s this week.

After School Clubs: The turn of the year has been a great start for new delivery in the local community, with our second term of after school clubs’ coaching getting underway, including the Broughton High School cluster after school club.

BATs’ Youth Section

Our Wednesday night training sessions have moved to Raeburn Place, where we will be based as and when the weather permits. These sessions are from 18.30-19.30. Please dress for the conditions and note that if the weather rules out the pitches, we still have the option to use the RAF hall so training will continue whenever possible.

Training for the S2s this Sunday will be at Raeburn Place between 11.00 and 12.00. Gregor Devine will lead training, ahead of his Clan fixture for Trust Rugby International in the afternoon. Please come and watch this game if you can.

BATs U18

The U18s postponed fixture against Portobello will take place this Saturday, 23 January, at 11.30 at the Broughton High school pitches, weather permitting.

BATs U16s

The U16s won the Scottish U16 Bowl Final just before Christmas, with a great win over Birkmyre. This meant that they were entered into the Scottish U16 Cup with our first fixture against Gala away. The first attempt to play the match was called off due to the weather, so the game eventually took place last Wednesday evening under the floodlights of Gala’s 1st XV pitch. Unfortunately, in horrific conditions we came away second best. However, no one could fault the heart and effort of our players – we were just outmatched on the day by an older and more experienced side.

We are now focusing our efforts on the post-Christmas league, starting with training this Sunday at Raeburn place, 11.00-12.00. Please make an effort to attend and if you cannot make it, please let your coach know in advance.
