WEEKLY REVIEW

It has been another busy week for the BATs’ development team, but our week has been made slightly easier by the assistance of five Trinity Academy pupils who have been doing work experience with us.

CLUB

S1s: The S1s’ local derby against Heriot’s on Sunday was a closely fought and exciting match, played in great spirit. Sadly the BATs’ boys just lost out, with the final score BATs 38-40 Heriot’s. We look forward to the away leg in January. Click here for a full match report.

BATs' S1 v Heriot's, Sunday 30 October

ACE: Monday say another great ACE session down at Raeburn Place, with coaching from members of Accies’ senior squad. Despite the clash with Halloween, we still had a good turnout. The session focused on some key aspects of the game, such as handling under pressure, body management and technical breakdown of the pass.

SCHOOLS

Primary Schools: This week we have been working with a variety of primary schools, with sessions at Ferryhill, Broughton and Stockbridge. The sessions have been taken by the work experience pupils, under the careful supervision of our BATs’ assistant DO. The five S4 Trinity Academy pupils have all involved with the School of Rugby for the last four years but the experience of primary school rugby was new to them. They found it eye opening and somewhat challenging, but all of them learnt quickly and have been running some great sessions.

Trinity Academy: This week the School of Rugby has been focusing on being able to move the ball quickly into space when transitioning from defence to attack and vice versa.

There were fixtures at S1/2, U16s and U18s against Penicuik/Beeslack on Saturday. The U18s win against a strong opposition made them team of the week. With so many S1s now playing rugby, we were able to organise a development fixture against Forrester on Friday afternoon, allowing all the boys to get match experience. We hope to organise more fixtures along these lines.

All age groups have fixtures against George Watsons this coming Saturday

Broughton High School: The S2s at Broughton High School S2’s are now into their fifth week of delivery and rugby is really starting to take shape amongst the class. The presence of the Trinity Academy work experience boys provided a slightly different dynamic which helped keep the session fresh and moving with different stations that where set up and different voices delivering.
