Edinburgh BATs Rugby

Youth (12-18) Rugby

RUGBY FOR ALL - in the North Edinburgh community

The annual BATs U18 v Edinburgh Academy 1st XV 'Ed Saunders Cup' match

For young people aged 12 to 18 the Club provides a youth section through Edinburgh BATs Rugby, which uses Edinburgh Accies' ground at Raeburn Place as its main base.

As well as Broughton, Edinburgh Accies and Trinity Accies rugby clubs, BATs is very pleased to have partnerships with Citadel, TRUST Rugby, Scottish Rugby, Edinburgh Rugby and RAF 603 (City of Edinburgh) Squadron.

In the past year BATs delivered 786 sessions attended by 15,530 young people from more than 30 different schools. They did this by providing curriculum sessions at 18 schools across north Edinburgh and running after-school and lunch clubs at nine schools, in addition to regular weekly club training sessions and games. BATs runs 10 age-group teams and family touch rugby sessions during the summer months. They also run three rugby camps throughout the year.

BATs runs teams at S1 (U13), S2 (U14), U16 and U18 age groups.

The S1s train on Wednesday evenings at Raeburn Place, 17:30-18:30. They play matches on Sunday mornings and there are some Sunday morning training sessions.

The S2s also train on Wednesday evenings at Raeburn Place, 18:00-19:00, with matches or training on Sunday mornings.

Due to the increasing number of BATs' U16s and U18s playing conference matches for their schoools, and with new Scottish Rugby guidelines on how much rugby a young player can participate in during the week, the programme of training and fixtures for U16s and U18s does not actively start until January.
