Voice of Rugby Dinner 2017

Friday 24 February, Prestonfield House Hotel, 7pm for 7.30pm

The Bill McLaren Foundation is hosting a Voice of Rugby Dinner on the eve of the Scotland v Wales international and it promises to be an excellent evening of entertainment and good company.

A table of ten at this glittering black-tie event costs £1000. If you have been to a Long Lunch, you will know how enjoyable these Bill McLaren Foundtion events are. Tables are selling fast, with only a few remaining. Don't miss out - please email Jason Parrot using to book.

Joint MCs for the night are Rory Lawson and Gethin Jones, with Gerald Davies CBE and Martyn Williams MBE providing the speeches.

As well as being one of the all-time greats of world rugby, Gerald Davies is arguably the greatest rugby orator of his or any generation. In a glittering amateur career Gerald played 46 times for Wales, winning three Grand Slams and scoring 20 tries. Many Scots will forlornly remember his last-minute try against Scotland in 1971. He went on two Lions' tours and played in all the tests during the only successful tour of New Zealand to date. Gerald wrote for the Times for many years, has managed the Lions and still serves on the Lions' committee. He is currently Chairman of the Pro 12 league.

In keeping with the Welsh connection and in a Lions' year, the Bill McLaren Foundation delighted to have secured Martyn Williams. Martyn was the first Welsh player to reach 100 caps. In a stellar career he won two Grand Slams and toured with the Lions twice, playing in four tests. Gareth Edwards described him as: "a great example of the modern game [who] has been the ultimate professional." Martin now works in the financial sector and is also a commentator for the BBC.
