Lieutenant General Sir Robert Richardson KCB CVO CBE (1929-2014)

We were saddened to hear of the sudden but peaceful passing of Lt General Sir Robert Richardson on 21 November.

Bob Richardson was a fearless soldier who served his country in various hotspots during his career, including Suez, Aden, Germany and Northern Ireland, the latter where he rose from command of a battalion to GOC of the Province.

The father of three iconic Accies players, Charles, Jeremy and Guy, he was a keen sportsman himself, playing rugby for Sandhurst and captaining the Army and Combined Services’ XVs while serving in the Suez Canal zone in 1954.

Bob was a keen golfer and a well-respected member of The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers at Muirfield and devoted the final two decades of his life to what he called “the three Gs”: Golf, his Garden and his ten Grandchildren.

We convey our deepest sympathies to his wife, Candy, and to Charles, Jeremy, Guy, their sister Clare, and all their families.

A service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held on Thursday 22nd January 2015 11 a.m. at the Canongate Kirk, Edinburgh.
