Match Preview, BT Cup QF: Stirling County v Accies

Saturday 10 February
1st XV v Stirling County, BT Cup QF, Bridgehaugh, 14:30

This Saturday sees the next step in our BT Cup journey, when we travel to Bridgehaugh to take on Stirling County. Please note the 14:30 kick off, which is to accommodate extra time should the game be drawn after 80 minutes.

Although match stats do not mean much on the day, readers may be interested to know that Stirling are coming off a six-match losing streak, not having won a game since they beat Marr back in October. They are currently seventh (of ten) in the Premiership, having won five and lost ten this season.

We know our squad will view this as a break from league pressure and a chance to test themselves against Premiership opposition. The last time we played Stirling in a league fixture, we just edged a 15-12 win at Raeburn Place, but that was several seasons ago now and Saturday represents a blank canvas.

Coach's Comments

"The pack from last week is much changed, with Black and Lacour returning to the starting line up, Lovett starting in the second row and a new look back row partnership of Inwood, Simpson and Snape. Sam Johnson also returns to the starting team, with a familiar 10, 12 and 13. Josh Pecqueur gets the nod on the wing after an impressive display off the bench last week.

"Respite from the pressure and grind of league rugby is welcomed and with a change of competition comes a change in approach to the game. ‘Shackles off’ is the intent we brought to our Cup match against Heriot’s and the same goes for Saturday’s opposition, who also happen to be a premiership club. The physicality of our game against Stew Mel was perfect preparation for this week as there is a recognition that it will be a physical affair. This is something that we are used to and whatever County decide to throw at us, we will match it with an instilled freedom to go out and have a crack, irrespective of what the scoreboard is telling us."
