Match Preview NL1 18: Accies v Gala

Saturday 17 February
1st XV v Gala, RP, 15:00

Back to league rugby for the 1st XV this week, with Gala coming to Raeburn Place to see if they can knock us off our winning streak in return for us breaching Fortress Netherdale earlier this season. As the only league team to deprive us of a try bonus point so far this season, they may feel they have grounds for optimism. However, when they held us to that close 13-16 result back in the autumn, we were the first team to beat them this season. Since then, they have experienced more mixed fortunes, only winning four games between now and then, as well as sustaining surprising losses to Stew Mel and Musselburgh. That said, they are still third in the league, albeit 26 points behind us, and they will view a win at Raeburn Place as a sign of returning form.

Coach's Comments

"In contrast to the preparation for the game against Stirling, where I gave license to loosen up and run the ball, this week we bring the focus back to 'doing the dishes'. The basics of our attack will be applied and we will build our way into the game, earning the right to loosen up if and when the game allows us to. Gala will, I am sure, limit those opportunities for us, so we will rely on the work we have been doing on our DNA, week in and week out, since July.

"Neil Armstrong and Jack Mann return from injury this week, with Cole Imrie, a product of BATs and ACE Academy, getting his opportunity to make his 1st XV debut. Jamie Sole returns from his week off, meaning Alistair Wood returns to captain the 2nd XV against Ayr this week."

Our senior squad for this week:

2nd XV v Ayr 2nd XV, Millbrae, 15:00

The 2nd XV face another tough game this week, away to Ayr. However, with their captain, Alistair Wood, back at the helm after a few weeks' sterling service for the 1sts, they will put up a good fight and be looking for a win.

Onwards and upwards!
