Match Preview NL1 13: Jed-Forest v Accies

Saturday 16 December
1st XV v Jed-Forest

Although the cold weather continues, apparently the frost covers are on at Riverside Park, so we have to expect the game will be on. We certainly hope it will be, as it would be good to get this crunch match out of the way.

Although we beat Jed at Raeburn Place back in September, that is the only game they have lost this season and Jed on their home patch are a very different prospect, as we have discovered to our cost in recent seasons. However, every game is a clean slate and we will go into the match focussing on giving the best possible account of ourselves.

Coach's Comments

What a challenge for us to finish up 2017 with. We select a largely settled side with quality peppered throughout from 1 to 20. The most notable absence is Robert Lovett, who continues to struggle with a hamstring injury, but this presents an opportunity for Rory Simpson to show his versatility and cover the back row of the bench.

Since joining the ranks of National 1 rugby in 2015 we have failed to beat Jed-Forest at Riverside Park. The games have, however, always been fiery affairs. The form and run of results we have strung together so far this season will not count for anything. We are the only side to beat Jed this year and it being a top of the table clash adds to the tension and pressure that could surround the game. That is, of course, if you get swept up in it and pay attention to it. The reality is, we will not.

The focus, as always, is on ourselves. We still need to build on our performance against GHA and Jed is our opportunity to continue to (im)prove ourselves.

Our senior squad for this week:

2nd XV v Heriot's 2nd XV

The 2s are scheduled to take on Heriot's at Raeburn Place at 14:00, but this is dependent on the weather and pitch conditions. If the game is cancelled, notification will be through social media and the Twitter feed on the website home page.
