Match Preview Prem1: Accies v Ayr

Saturday 1 September
1st XV v Ayr, Raeburn Place, 15:00

We open our Premiership campaign this Saturday with Ayr at home. The last time they came to Raeburn Place was on a snowy Saturday in January 2015. The weather this week should be considerably better and, if it stays dry, will suit the type of open rugby we prefer to play.

It will be a stern test for us on our return to the top flight. Ayr finsihed last season in third place and then made it to the final of the play-offs, which they narrowly lost to Melrose. We will need to stay focused and no doubt it will be a hard battle, but we are sure the lads will enjoy performing at this level again.

Coach's Comments

"It is great to see our starting XV freshened up from our championship winning campaign in National 1. A balanced blend of youth in Davis, Spencer, Campbell and Hagerty in the squad is offset by the experience of some seasoned players in Armstrong, Mill, Black and Sole. It is definitely an exciting 20 who will be taking the field at the weekend and we are looking forward to watching them step up at Raeburn Place on Saturday.

"Saturday is a great opportunity to kick off our campaign with a bang – benchmarking ourselves against one of the most consistently successful clubs in the country for over a decade. However, our approach won’t change how we navigated our way through National 1: heads down, working hard for each other and letting the score take care of itself."

Other Games This Week

Updated 31/08 @ 19:50:

Both the 2nd and 3rd XVs were set to open their league campaigns tomorrow. However, whilst the 2nd XV will be taking on Boroughmuir Bears (3rd XV) at Meggetland, unfotunately the 3rd XV will have to wait a week for the proper start of their league campaign. Ross High had to cancel the fixture, thus gifting us a 28-0 'win' and five league points. Luckily, our management team were able to secure a friendly round robin with Lassade and Corstorphine, at Lasswade, so the boys will not have been training in vain.

Onwards and upwards!
