Match Preview Prem16: Glasgow Hawks v Accies

Saturday 19 January
1st XV v Glasgow Hawks, Balgray, 14:00
What a difference a week makes! From the depressing start to the year against Boroughmuir to our first win of the season, with a galvanised squad providing an entertaining and dedicated performance to secure the bonus-point victory. It was a deserved win and we will be hoping to restore the balance against Hawks on Saturday.

When they came to Raeburn Place we lost the encounter by just two points, as a result of their dominance in the scrum, where they were aided immeasurably by two pro-draft flankers. We understand they have not been released this week and it will be interesting to see how our scrum stands up this week, on a more level playing field.

Coach's Comments
"Only one change to the team from last week: Josh Pecqueur comes into the back 3 in place of Tom Brown, who is not released in the draft this week.

"This week throws up a completely different challenge for us but our focus will be about delivering consistency, with the aim of doubling up and going back to back. This will not be easy, given Finn’s ability to squeeze a lot out of his limited playing resource, coupled with his nous. It means our approach cannot change to the one we took against Hawick: tons of ticker driven by an unwavering desire to work hard for each other."

1st XV v Glasgow Hawks

2nd XV v Musselburgh 2nd XV, RP, 14:00
The 2s had a harder game than they may have anticipated against Biggar last week, mainly due to significant numbers of unavailable players due to injuries and other commitments. When we played Musselburgh away earlier in the season we won 46-22 in an exciting game. With every league point required if we are to have a chance of promotion, we hope we can secure a similar victory at home on Saturday.

If you cannot make it through to Glasgow for the 1st XV fixture, please come along to Raeburn Place to support the 2s instead. The bar will be open from 14:00.

3rd XV v Corstorphine Cougars, Broughton HS, 14:00
We will play Corstorphine at Broughton High School now that the 2nd XV pitch is partly enclosed in the building site. Our encounter with them earlier in the season resulted in one of our cricket scores for the season, 72-0. There is a good chance they will be quite rusty, having not played a game since 10 November, due to postponements and the obligatory league 'week off'. On that occasion they beat Thebans 60-12, which indicates we should win, but a lot will depend on availability.

Onwards & upwards!
