Match Preview NL1 19: Selkirk v Accies (rescheduled)

Saturday 21 April
1st XV v Selkirk, Philiphaugh, 15:00

As our Head Coach says below, no one is any doubt about the significance of this week's game against Selkirk. A bonus point win will ensure we finish first in the league, with automatic promotion to the Premiership next season. Any other outcome (unless Jed match us or get a worse result) will see us take on Glasgow Hawks in a play-off on 5 May.

Having seen the team come back against GHA two weeks ago (the first time we had been in a losing position all league season) in hideous conditions, their steely determination to get the job done and secure those four tries as well as the win, left little doubt about their ability to perform under pressure. However, vocal support always provides an extra edge, so please come down to the Borders to cheer on the guys at the end of their excellent season.

Coach's Comments

"The only change to the starting line-up this week is Callum Ramm replacing Connor Hirini, who returned home last week to witness his fiancé captain the Silver Ferns to Commonwealth Gold. Angus Inwood and Martin McGinley join the bench, replacing two of our age grade internationalists who picked up injuries in recent weeks.

"There is no hiding what is at stake at the weekend and what rewards could await us on the final whistle but there are 80 minutes of rugby to get through first. Marsh made his intentions clear in an interview after their recent encounter with Jed: they are out to do their fellow borderers a favour because he feels they deserve their place in the premiership over us. We will let him and Selkirk worry about doing Jed a favour and we will worry about ourselves and letting the score take care of itself."

Our senior team for this week:

Hawick 7s

Our 1st VII are at Hawick on Saturday, where they will play the hosts at 14:36 in a striaght knock-out tie. Obviously given our game at Selkirk, Hawick will be anticipating an easy ride to the next stage, but our squad may well surprise them.

Onwars and upwards!
