Match Summary Cup R1: Heriot's v Accies

Scottish Cup R1, Saturday 24 November
Heriot's 29-20 Accies

We had a strong start against Heriot's on Saturday, pinning the home team in their half and securing the opening points of the match with a Richard Mill penalty and a Callum Black try, following a 30m break by Black and a link-up with Badenhorst. Heriot's then came back with two tries of their own, one a pushover, before a great break by Jack Mann put Cammy Gray over out wide put us one point ahead. Hart then made a good break, which was followed by several scrums on Heriot's line before Robert Wilson broke away to score under the posts. Mill's conversion saw us going into the break 20-12 up.

Unfortuantely, Heriot's were obviously not happy about the deficit and pulled on some of their big guns for the second half. Their extra weight, combined with the increasingly filthy weather conditions and several injuries, proved too much for us. Despite an admirable show of determination from all our players, Heriot's scored the only points in the half, notching up three tries, including two more pushovers.

The game ended 29-20 to Heriot's, which was probably a lot closer than they had been anticipated and at least we gave them a scare in the first half and pushed them hard throughout the match.

We are back at Goldenacre again this coming Saturday for our second league fixture against them, kick-off at 14:00.

Man of the Match was Jack Mann, who must surely be a contender for Scotland U20 this season. Unfortunately, he sustained a dead leg during the game, so will not be able to show his mettle against Heriot's this week. Jack is kindly sponsored by Supernature Oils.
