Match Summary Prem18: Currie v Accies

Results, Saturday 2 March
1st XV 5-19 Currie
2nd XV 50-7 Kelso A
3rd XV 28-0 Leith (game cancelled by Leith - automatic award of points)

Accies 1st XV 5-19 Currie 1st XV
The conditions at Malleny Park on Saturday were not conducive to fast-flowing rugby and so it proved, with much of the game being slogged out mid-field. Our squad performed well and this did not look like a bottom of the league versus almost-top encounter, with our defensive play, especially in the second half, frustrating Currie's attempts to secure the try bonus they were hoping for. With no scoring for most of the second half, we were on the attack and hopeful of a score when a prolonged period of injury time broke our momentum and gave Currie the chance to regroup, allowing them to pop over their third try with just a few minutes to go.

The 1st XV's season is now finished, but we await the outcome of Scottish Rugby's SGM on 22 March to find out which league we will be in come September. Our bottom-place finish does not really reflect the standard of our season. Yes, we made too many mistakes, especially in early matches, and we were beset by injuries. It is a credit to the strength and depth within the Club that those players 'stepping up' rose to the challenge. We were also unfortunate to have a handful of key games where the opposition's pros made a significant difference and prevented us from securing the wins that would have taken us further up the table.

Man of the Match was Robbie Kent, who made several breaks, including the one that led to our only try of the day. Robbie is kindly sponsored by S1 Developments.

Try: Mungo Mason

Accies 2nd XV 50-7 Kelso A
Another bonus-point win keeps the 2s top of their league but will it be enough to secure promotion ahead of Currie 2s, who have a game in hand and are currently unbeaten? It is shaping up to be an exciting end of the season. Please come along and support the 2nd XV against Currie next Saturday, 16 March, which is a must-win for us.

Accies 3rd XV 28-0 Leith
Unforunately Leith conceded this game last Friday, which results in the standard 28-0 scoreline and five league points. Given that we won our earlier match against Leith 115-0 and that the league could potentially end up being decided on points difference, the arbitrary nature of assigning a four-try win to teams whose opponents cannot fulfil a fixture seems a little unfair in this league. However, The Entertainers will no doubt come out all guns-blazing on 16 March, determined to storm the league.

Looking ahead - Saturday 16 March
Both the 2nd and 3rd XVs have home matches on 16 March, with the 2s playing their crunch match against Currie. This promises to be an entertaining game and we are holding a lunch beforehand. Please come along and support.

Onwards & upwards!
