Michael Marwick, 1934-2017

We were saddened to hear that former Accies' Captain, Michael TR Marwick, passed away on Saturday 28 October, aged 83.

Mike played for Accies in the 1950s and 1960s, captaining the unofficial league championship winning side in 1955-56 and leading the team again in 1960-61 and 1968-69.

He was a member of the Academicals XV that played The International XV to celebrate the Club's centenary in 1957, playing alongside legends such as Douglas Elliot, Stan Coughtrie, Gilbert and Tommy McClung, Brian Neill, Hamish Inglis, Tony O'Reilly, Rex Willis, Tom Elliot, Jim Greenwood, Clem Thomas and French star Jean 'Monsieur Rugby' Prat. The Academicals won that game 24-12.

Following his retirement from the field, Mike went on to be a strong Club Committee member during the 1970s.

A service will be held at Mortonhall Crematorium Main Chapel this Friday, 10 November, at 13:00, to which all family and friends are invited. Family flowers only please, but donations, if desired, may be made to the RNLI and Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland.

The Club extends its sincere condolences to his wife Rosemary, his sons Robert and George and their families.
