President's Blog - 29 January 2015

We do believe in leaving things to the last moment at RP, don’t we? With what was probably our worst performance of the season we let a good chance of easing our bottom of the table place tussle with Hawks go begging, losing 7-27 last weekend.

That leaves us five points adrift at the bottom of the Premiership with two games to go. We can do it but we need to win our last two games, probably with a bonus point in each, and hope other results go our way too.

On the other hand, the 2nd XV won again last weekend. 12-10 against a strong Hawks 2nd XV to keep their second place in their league.

A fortnight on Sunday, 15 February - the day Scotland play Wales at Murrayfield - we will see another first at our historic ground, Raeburn Place. The first Club game in Scotland, the first ever international, the first Calcutta Cup game, the Women’s World Cup final and now the first Unified Rugby game at Raeburn Place, when The Edinburgh Clan will play Swansea Gladiators at 12pm.

You are all invited to see this game and support The Edinburgh Clan, who are based and train at Raeburn Place. For more details, click here.

Congratulations to Nyle Godsmark and, surprisingly, Chris Dean who have both been selected for the Scotland Sevens squad on their round the world trip to play in the Wellington and Las Vegas World Rugby Sevens Tournaments. Surprisingly for Chris because he has a XV contract with Edinburgh, though he is getting little rugby there other than when he has played for us recently. Well done men, enjoy your trip and hope for some flight upgrades.

We have arranged two extra fixtures for the 1st XV to keep us going till we play Hawick away on 21 February. On 7 February we will play Gala at Raeburn Place. After the game you can stay on in the Club and watch the 5pm Scotland v France game on TV. The following weekend we will play Currie at their place, further up the Water of Leith.

Finally, there are no games for the top two sides this weekend but the Development XV will be at Raeburn Place to play Haddington 2nd XV, ko 2pm.
