Programme Notes - Accies v Gala, 4 October 2014

Our President is currently in New Zealand and our Vice-president is in Spain, so the honour falls to me today to welcome Gala, their President, Scott Dalgleish, and their supporters to Raeburn Place for our BT Premiership match. Sincere thanks and welcome also to our match officials - referee Mr Neil Muir and assistants Mr David Changeling and Mr Digby Thomas - for without them there would be no game.

We also welcome our guard of honour, the young players from our P2 mini rugby team and today’s mascot, Harrison Shaw. Thank you for supporting the senior team today. We hope you enjoy the experience and the game.

Our tough start to the season has continued, with injuries and player call-ups continuing to take their toll. However, our last two matches showed great promise and more maturity in the team’s performance. It was therefore especially hard on the boys that they came so close to victory in both those games, only to have it taken from them in the end. At least we’ve got off the blocks with a couple of points. And the team should be proud of how they played last week against Ayr who had two pros – one the current Scotland hooker – when we had none.

Our visitors today are currently top of the table, having won all but the first of their five matches so far this season, so we are not kidding ourselves that this will be an easy encounter for us. However, the boys are fired up by the confidence of our near-win at Ayr last Saturday and are determined to take the game to Gala. We hope you will see some exciting rugby as a result.

I hope you all enjoy your visit to Raeburn Place and look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Executive Chairman, EAFC
