The Club

Welcome to the Edinburgh Academical Football Club

The Edinburgh Academical Football Club, formed in 1857, is the oldest rugby club in Scotland and the second oldest in the World. The Club’s name omits the word rugby as it predates the division between the Association and Rugby codes of football, which took place in the 1860s.

President's Welcome

A very warm welcome to you, whether you are looking at this web site for the first time or you are a regular visitor. We are grateful to Andy Adamson for creating our new, mobile-friendly site.

I was immensely proud to be President in the Club's 160th season, following in the footsteps of so many illustrious names from the Club's annals. That the 1st XV had such a fantastic season and secured promotion back into the Premiership was, obviously, not down to my efforts, but it was deeply satisfying to be at the helm, in a figurative sense, at such an exciting time for the Club. I am sure this season will be just as exciting (and sometimes nervewracking) for all associated with Accies.

We are rightly proud of what we have contributed to rugby in the past, but we are also proud of our recent efforts to develop rugby, not only at Raeburn Place at both Senior and Mini level, but throughout north Edinburgh with our partner BATs.

Accies Centre of Excellence (ACE) is now successfully established. ACE focuses on improving the individual skills, standards and knowledge of the young players of north Edinburgh, aged from 14 to 18, and runs on Monday evenings throughout the year. We have an impressive team of coaches working with ACE. I thank them for their efforts and look forward to seeing the results of their dedication.

You will find all the information you need about the Club on this website. Whether you are looking to join us as a new player or social member, if you would like to volunteer to help or become a sponsor of the Club, or you simply want to watch some exciting rugby, you will be very welcome at Raeburn Place – the birthplace of international rugby.

Frank Spratt
President, EAFC
