The sacrifice made by so many Academicals during the Great War is something we do not, and will never, take for granted.
For a club with such a rich heritage, it is perhaps not surprising that (according to our research) more than 100 rugby-playing Academicals lost their lives in the Great War. The Edinburgh Academy as a whole lost 303 from over 1,000 former pupils who took part in the war.
The following is a list of rugby-playing Academicals who gave their lives serving during the First World War, 1914-1918. Some of those named may have gone on to other schools, after attending the Edinburgh Academy, and some may have played for clubs other than EAFC, but they are all Academicals.
The list includes six Oxford Blues, three Cambridge Blues and six internationalists, five who represented Scotland and one England.
