  • STEP: Multiple scoring zones, different balls.

ZONE 2 - HAWICK BALL

Session Focus Points:

  • Highlight use of the pass to find and reach the space.

  • Possible Conditions: Defenders drop-off after touch, 1 touch turnover

  • STEP: Multiple scoring zones, different balls, ‘bank’ number of passes before each score

ZONE 3 - Skills & Technique

Skill Activity (7 mins): Defender in the Middle

Setup grid for 2v1s (5x5m), split evenly so groups of 2 on either side of the grid and have 1 defender in the middle. One group of 2 at a time try to beat the defender to get to the otherside of the grid, passing to the next group of 2 if they do. Defender stays in the middle until a group of 2 fail (touched with ball, dropped ball, interception etc) then swap and continue with next group of 2. Make enough grids to minimise inactive players (prob 2 or 3).

PROGRESSIONS: Make the grid larger/smaller and use different balls. Increase to 3v2s, 4v2s etc.

Technique Activity (3 mins): No Defender

Same as Defender in the Middle but do some reps without a defender - so simple, quick passing repetitions. Use same grids.

PROGRESSIONS: Make the grid larger, increasing number of passes or number of players. Use different balls.

45-60 mins - Rugby Games, Stay in Groups and use Zones as pitches (Round Robin if time allows)
